We have seen a lot of stats and records about the ODI World Cup in news articles and heard them in the commentary, but cricket is a sport of a million stats. Naturally, there are several records and numbers, which might intrigue cricket fans, that are missed by most media outlets. Today, we will be looking at some of those statistics and records.

As per the ICC Cricket World Cup Records, While South Africa scored the most runs in a World Cup match recently against Sri Lanka at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium, do you know the lowest team total in World Cup history? This embarrassing wooden spoon was taken by the Canadian cricket team, who scored 39/10 against Sri Lanka in the 2003 edition of the tournament. The Canadians also possess the second-ever World Cup score of 45/10 against England in 1979.

While most of us know that the greatest margin of victory by runs in the World Cup was Australia defeating Afghanistan in 2015 by 275 runs, but the largest victory margin by balls to spare might just be a little more impressive. There have been five teams in the tournament history to have gone on an unbeaten run on their way to winning the whole thing. The West Indies, during their dominance in the 1970s, won the 1975 and 1979 World Cups without losing a single match. As per the ICC Cricket World Cup Records, In 1996, co-hosts Sri Lanka did not lose a single match on their way to an unexpected title win. However, two of their eight victories in the tournament came via forfeit from West Indies and Australia, who refused to travel to the then war-torn nation.
