Basics to know about Rubber Dam Clamps and its placement

The rubber dam clamp is counted as the main part of the dental equipment while anchoring the dam to the tooth for isolating the arena. The rubber dam clamp has to get attached to the tooth at the particular contact points. The clamp is used for holding the rubber dam while performing the spring action further down to the height of the tooth’s contour. It also withdraws the gingiva. Furthermore, there are several types of rubber dam clamp placement which are mentioned below:

Wingless clamp

In this clamp, there is no central arm to fetch the sheet for the straight placement. This clamp is kept on the tooth and then stretching or a rubber dam makes the frame fitted over the tooth.

Its jaws are rounded in shape.

Winged clamps

In this clamp, wings are available and get dragged via a hole for getting placed on the tooth.

Double bow clamps

The double bow clamp is a kind of special clamp that is used only for the tooth which is single-rooted.

Soft clamp

Soft clamp has a different design that dispenses the applied force on the tooth for pressure reduction on contact points. Its tight grip lets the clamp get engaged with the surface of the tooth politely as well as firmly. Not only that but it also reduces the risk of slippage and damage of the teeth.

Long guard extension clamp

This type of clamp keeps the tongue aside, protects the soft tissue, and gets the task done smoothly.

Tiger clamp

The clamp provides extra maintenance with the jaws. It is mostly helpful in case of broken teeth.

Offset clamps

The bow of this clamp is only located on a single side it may be left or right. And this never interferes in normal anatomic structures, as they maintain space.

Specialised clamps

These are non-metallic as it is designed with polycarbonate plastic. These are designed for a purpose like to give lesser pain in gingiva. And it has all the qualities of a soft clamp.

Active and passive clamps

There are two clamps in one where active clamp comes and provides a firm grip to the tooth and passive clamp helps in dislodge easily. Also, it has enough length of floss which easily passes through the holes.

How does the clamp placement get done?

Initially one has to choose the right clamp, and then place it on the cervical area of the tooth, which is considered as the narrow part, and then further process takes place. It never gets done only with the rubber dam clamps but Brinker’s are also used in this process. They have different structures according to the lower molars, upper left molars, upper right molars, Canines and anterior, etc. To choose the perfect clamp or Brinker one has to know about the shape and dimensions of the tooth.
